Lightweight polymer clay with a matte finish
Sculpey Soufflé is oven-bake polymer clay known for its low weight and matte, suede-like finish after curing. It is suitable for jewellery, beads, pendants, decorations, mixed media and other creative projects where colour and a modern matte appearance are important.
Soufflé does not air-dry, allowing makers to condition, blend and shape the clay at their own pace until the creation is cured in an oven.
Sculpey Soufflé for lightweight jewellery
Its low weight makes Soufflé particularly suitable for larger earrings, pendants and beads that need to remain comfortable to wear. After curing, the clay is strong and slightly flexible, allowing relatively thin jewellery components when they are formed and baked correctly.
Finish edges carefully and make sure that holes and metal findings have sufficient material around them when assembling jewellery.
Blending colours and creating patterns
Soufflé is available in a broad range of modern, natural and bold colours. Colours can be blended to create custom shades and gradients. Its matte finish allows graphic shapes and colour combinations to appear particularly clear.
The clay holds details and patterns well and can be used for techniques such as caning, mokume gane and bargello. Textures and reliefs also remain clearly visible after curing.
Soufflé for mixed media and textile projects
In addition to jewellery, Soufflé can be used for tags, decorative components, bags, paper projects and mixed media. Depending on their shape and thickness, thin cured sheets can be cut or pierced for attachment to textiles and other materials.
Test the intended method on a small component first, especially when combining cured clay with flexible materials or textiles.
Conditioning and curing Soufflé
Condition the clay before use until it becomes smooth and evenly workable. Use a roller or pasta machine to create sheets and colour blends. Blades, cutters and sculpting tools can be used to create shapes, patterns and textures.
